Independent record stores are not dead.
In fact, in Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire, independent music, movie and video game store chain Bull Moose is thriving these days. Bull Moose is now the largest retailer of new and pre-owned music, movies, and video games in Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire with ten stores and more than 100 employees.
• Bull Moose actually saw an increase in sales from 2007 to 2008 - largely thanks to its extensive inventory of used CDs, DVDs, and video games.
• In 2007, Bull Moose VP Chris Brown conceived of Record Store Day as a nationwide opportunity for hundreds of independently-owned music, movie, and video game stores to celebrate the culture and unique place they occupy nationally and in their local communities.
o This year the 2nd Annual Record Store Day event will be celebrated on April 18 throughout the U.S. - and now in 16 other countries around the world.
o Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day, and hundreds of artists make special appearances and performances around the world.
• Bull Moose has been hosting live in-store concerts since their inception. Always acoustic, informal and free, Bull Moose in-stores are a popular intimate outlet for local and national acts and their fans.
• Patrons can shop Bull Moose's entire inventory of new and used goods at www.bullmoose.com.
